Vice-Chancellor’s Reception: Report

Over 100 Alumni and their guests from Southern Ontario gathered on the evening of Monday November 5th at the Albany Club at a Reception for Professor Alison Richard Vice-Chancellor of the University hosted by Nicholas Armour, British Consul General.  It was great to welcome so many younger graduates and many attending their first function organized by the Cambridge Society of Toronto.

His Excellency Anthony Cary, British High Commissioner introduced the Vice-Chancellor, who spoke about the highlights of the past year in Cambridge.  These included a major initiative in the area of Neurosciences, an evening with three of Britain’s greatest thespians, the 30th anniversary celebration of HRH Prince Philip’s service as Chancellor, and Dr Martin Evans sharing in the 2007 Nobel Prize for medicine.  She told us that the 800th Anniversary Campaign is running ahead of its target at this time. Professor Richard closed her remarks by telling us that once you’ve done something for two successive years it becomes a tradition.

We look forward to her visit in 2008.

Earlier in the day, the Vice Chancellor attended a working lunch to develop means whereby the newly formed Cambridge Alumni Relations Office, (CARO) in coordination with the Cambridge Office in New York could provide more support to the Cambridge Societies in Canada and in Toronto in particular.
